How It Started
Petals Creative Services was born from two distinct careers converging on a shared belief: advertising should be simple, effective, and to the point.
Imalka Weerasooriya built her foundation in corporate marketing at John Keells Holdings PLC, where she spent five years as a Category Manager and Trade Marketing lead. She was the kind of marketer who didn’t just execute campaigns — she reimagined them. She doubled promo sales through strategic bank partnerships, cut marketing costs by 10% by rethinking POSM and production workflows, and mastered the full spectrum of ATL, BTL, and trade marketing for blue-chip brands. Her ability to balance creative thinking with financial discipline set her apart in an industry that often separates the two.
Chandima Dominic Wickramatunge carved his path through leadership roles at the intersection of marketing, technology, and operations. As Head of Marketing at Keells Super, he shaped strategy for one of Sri Lanka’s largest retail networks. He later led vertical growth at ikman.lk, one of the country’s leading digital marketplaces, before moving into technology leadership as Group CEO — IT Cluster at Sumathi Holdings. His career has always operated at the crossroads of business vision and technical execution — a rare combination that gives him a unique vantage point on what modern marketing needs to succeed.
Though their paths ran parallel in the corporate world, they shared a growing frustration: traditional agencies were too slow, too rigid, and too disconnected from the business realities their clients faced. They saw an opportunity to build something different — an agency that could combine the rigor of corporate marketing with the agility and creativity that modern brands demand.
That shared vision would prove to be the seed of something bigger.
The Leap
By 2017, Imalka had stepped into a Director role at Petals Advertising, bringing her corporate discipline to the agency world. She managed key accounts for some of Sri Lanka’s largest companies, handling end-to-end campaign conceptualization and delivery across ATL, BTL, and trade channels.
But the industry was changing. Clients needed more than just execution — they needed speed, agility, and strategic thinking without the overhead of traditional agencies. And technology was reshaping how brands connected with customers.
In 2018, Chandima and Imalka made a decision: to build something new. Something that combined the rigor of corporate marketing with the creativity and flexibility that modern brands demanded.
Petals Creative Services (Pvt) Ltd was born.
Built Different From Day One
While most agencies were still figuring out remote work in 2020, we had already been distributed since our founding. With our base camp in Colombo 4 and a team spanning Sri Lanka and beyond, we built a collaborative model that could access the best talent regardless of location — and scale effectively in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
We didn’t just want to be another agency. We wanted to be Sri Lanka’s first bespoke, agile, and design-focused advertising agency — one that could turn retail visions into reality with precision and purpose.
